Key Holding & Alarm Response

Our Key Holding & Alarm Response service is designed to give you peace of mind, whether you are a home or business owner.

Responding to alarm activations fast and reliably is our top priority

As a fully accredited SIA contractor, we work in accordance with BS 7984:2008 Keyholding and Alarm Response Services Code of Practice

A keyholding service means that we hold a set of keys to your commercial premises in a secure, off-site location. When your alarm is activated and alerts our 24 hour control room to the fact that there is an incident on your property, a security response vehicle will be dispatched to your property to investigate what has happened.

Our service is available 24/7, so you don’t have to worry about after-hours call outs.

All our response vehicles are equipped with trackers, and if we get a call out, a full report of the incident will be emailed ready for you the following morning

Our keyholding and alarm response services are available primarily throughout Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, however we have partnered with a network of approved contractors so can offer our services nationwide. We offer a high value service at low cost, and cost reductions for multi-sites or residential premises.

Key Fact

An alarm response system is essential for any business to progress, because false alarm problems alone cost over one billion pounds in the United Kingdom every year.

  • We would conduct individual site surveys of all key holding and mobile locations, detailed processes and procedures are created including pictures of the internal and external parts of the building.  The surveys are signed off by the clients and SPS Management. These are called Assignment Instructions
  • A risk assessment is carried out to ensure quality and safety for both the attending officers and client stakeholders. These also form part of the assignment instructions.
  • Once agreed our security personnel are briefed on the assignment to ensure we adhere to processes and procedures in safeguarding your estate.
  • All keys are stored safely in an industry-regulated (to British Standards) sealed pouch; we pride ourselves on the highest levels of regulation withholding your keys and comply to BS7984
  • We install our security signage in agreed locations, this starts to form part of our deterrent approach
  • Mobile patrols, lock and unlock and other services can be added to your assignment, this may provide a greater deterrent of risk to your business
  • Once the contract goes live, we take the responsibility 24 hours a day, 365 days a year

SPS have a clearly defined procedure for the Key Control, this forms part of our quality manual and ISOQAR 9001:2015 and SIA Approved Contractor quality assurance

They include:

  • Compile a register of all keys/fobs/swipes/passes.
  • Keys should not be identifiable to buildings but should be lettered or numbered with a master list being held in a secure location.
  • All keys must be signed in and out by authorised personnel only.
  • A list of authorised personnel must be kept up to date.
  • An audit of the key register must be conducted every day to ensure all keys have been returned and accounted for. (This will also be controlled via a module within our Alarm and Mobile Dispatch Software)
  • Key registers will also be checked by Supervisory/Management on audit visits.
  • Fobs/Codes should be changed when an employee who knew the code leaves the employment.
  • An SPS 074 must be completed for all key transactions – this also has a customer receipt for the handling of keys.
  • Key cupboards/storage cabinets must be secured at all times.
  • Procedures must be in place for any duplication of keys.
  • It should be remembered that Mechanical keys tell no tales. If inventory or supplies go missing, you may have no way to determine who unlocked the door. Worse yet, most keys can be duplicated without your permission. So you may have no idea how many people are opening your doors.
